DataHealth Lab at ISEE 2026 in Munich

🌍 From 30 August to 2 September 2026, the 38th Annual Conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE 2026), one of the leading international meetings in environmental epidemiology, brought together 1,941 participants from 72 countries in Munich, around the theme Understanding and Responding to Global and Local Challenges: Environmental Epidemiology in a Changing World. The DataHealth Lab was there with two oral presentations.
🎤 Oral presentations
Aline Rocha presented “Drought on adverse birth outcomes: a nationwide cohort study with 29.8 million live births in Brazil” (abstract) on Monday 31 August, in the session Climate-related exposures and health: epidemiological evidence across diverse health outcomes. Using records from the 100 Million Brazilian Cohort (2001-2020), the study found that drought during pregnancy was associated with a higher risk of preterm birth and, for prolonged exposure, of babies born small for gestational age, with larger effects in municipalities with low human development and when drought coincided with extreme heat. The work was published in The Lancet Regional Health – Americas in July 2026 (read the paper).
Breno Gabriel da Silva presented “Temporal trends in temperature-related mortality across Brazil, 1996-2023: a nationwide time-series analysis” (abstract) on Wednesday 2 September, in the session From exposure to adaptation: temperature-related mortality temporal changes across regions and populations. The manuscript of this oral presentation is currently under review.
👥 The DataHealth Lab community in Munich
Several colleagues and collaborators attended the ISEE in Munich. Next year the conference moves to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, where the 39th Annual Conference will take place from 5 to 8 September 2027.
Both presentations are part of our research on climate change and health, in collaboration with CIDACS-Fiocruz.
Congratulations, Aline and Breno! 👏
